“Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”

Sunday Readings. 2nd October 2012

4th Sunday of the Cross, (Slewa).

Feast of the Rosary.

1st Reading/ Deuteronomy 10: 12-19.

A reading from the Book of Deuteronomy” Barick-Mar”

Now, therefore, Israel, what does the Lord, your God, ask of you but to fear the Lord, your God, to follow in all his ways, to love and serve the Lord, your God, with your whole heart and with your whole being, to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord that I am commanding you today for your own well-being? Look, the heavens, even the highest heavens, belong to the Lord, your God, as well as the earth and everything on it. Yet only on your ancestors did the Lord set his heart to love them. He chose you, their descendants, from all the peoples, as it is today. Circumcise therefore the foreskins of your hearts, and be stiff-necked no longer. For the Lord, your God, is the God of gods, the Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who has no favorites, accepts no bribes, who executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and loves the resident alien, giving them food and clothing. So you too should love the resident alien, for that is what you were in the land of Egypt.

Amen.

2nd Reading/ 1st Corinthians 14:1,3,12,20,26, 31, 33.

A reading from the 1st Letter of St. Paul to Corinthians: “Barick-Mar”.

Pursue love, but strive eagerly for the spiritual gifts, above all that you may prophesy. On the other hand, one who prophesies does speak to human beings, for their building up, encouragement, and solace. So with yourselves: since you strive eagerly for spirits, seek to have an abundance of them for building up the church. Brothers, stop being childish in your thinking. In respect to evil be like infants, but in your thinking be mature. So what is to be done, brothers? When you assemble, one has a psalm, another an instruction, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Everything should be done for building up. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged. since he is not the God of disorder but of peace. As in all the churches of the holy ones,

Reader: The grace and peace be with you all brothers. Amen.

Gospel Reading/ Matthew 18:1-7

A reading from the Gospel of Saint Matthew.

At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. Temptations to Sin. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come!

Priest: Glory be to God for ever.
